Muma Doesa is an emcee/vocalist performing live in Melbourne since 2004. All songs are featured on the upcoming solo album, “Ms. Fortune” recorded partly in Oz and New York with Siege the beat Bully and Dunna, as well as performing at The Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York. Muma is also a front woman with 6 piece Hip Hop/Soul band, Blunt Paper Massive who have perfomed at Moomba and Brunswick Music Festival. She has recently appeared on U.S. based compilation “The Illest Female Rappers Vol. 18” alongside Da Brat and Estelle. MD released a new video clip for her new soul track “Untamed Hearts” ft. Jess Harlen, Pataphysics and Dj Rellik. This track is also from from her upcoming album, “Ms. Fortune”. Her style is a blend of hip hop, soul, and patios.
Muma Doesa is one of Australia’s most highly respected Hip Hop/Reggae MC/Vocalist/DJ who performs as a solo artist,based in Melbourne , Australia and performing since 2004, with recent performances in New York at Pyramid Lounge and Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe, and was recently immortalised in Michelle Grace Hunder’s Book “Rise” which features Australia’s top Hip Hop Artists.Muma’s hot single at the moment is “Brooklyn Bollywood” are 2 Australian remixes with Brooklyn Natives G*E*D and Psycho Les of The Beatnuts, one remix is mixed by DzILLA (U.S.), the other is mixed by DJ Rellik (Turnstyle Records).
The track is a cultural mash up of Spanish Hip Hop inna Bollywood Stylee.
MD is also Event Manager at The Caribbean Cookout, and Radio Host at Hip Sista Hop Radio on 3CR Radio Melbourne, playing female and indigenous Hip Hop..
Her performances include DJing rapping, singing, freestyling, and dancing.
Recently Muma Doesa caused a stir performing her groundbreaking “Natural Hair Poem” alongside Sista Zai Zanda, and Quashani Bahd at Federation Square as Stillwaters Storytelling Network for The Light in Winter Festival . MD also performed her single “Untamed Hearts” from her album “Ms Fortune”.
MD also performs with Quashani Bahd as Bahdoesa, a hip hop/dancehall duo who are currently working on their upcoming EP with UK producer Lotek, who has worked with Roots Manuva amongst many others.
Currently MD is mentoring and collaborating with gospel singer Tina Gee with Jason Heerah as part of The Visible Project for 2014 with Multicultural Arts Victoria .
MD has a passion for getting any party hype, whilst using Hip Hop + Reggae music as a means of empowering herself, and others in the broader community .
In 2013 , MD released her Debut Solo Hip Hop/Reggae Album,”Ms. Fortune” which pays homage to her personal and family history, as well as her South African ancestry . The Album was released on Turnstyle Records , and launched at Revolver Upstairs, with fellow Melbourne Hip Hop artists Bastian Killjoy and Seeka. Muma Doesa ‘s album “Ms Fortune” has also been on rotation on JJJ (Hip Hop Show), (Lunch with Lewie), RRR, 3CR (Hip Sista Hop) , and SYN FM. The single “What The Guys Do” also appeared in Independent Australian Film “Zoe Misplaced”, which screened at The Queer Film Festival 2014 at ACMI Cinema.
