. First release in 2002. From Sydney, best known for his earlier work with his Obese Records signed group, Hyjak N Torcha and for some of the most memorable local battles seen in the 90’s. With his diverse sound that showcases a Sydney street influence from the graffiti writers he grew up with, Hyjak has managed to cement his name amongst the greats of the local scene sitting today as a pioneer and heavyweight for the local music scene having since exploded as a underage teenage for his freestyle ability, touring nationally and NZ Bali back in early 2000’s. He has performed with artists such as the Hilltop Hoods, De La Soul, Xzibit, Mobb Deep, Gang Starr, Lord Finesse, Swollen Members, Murs and Ice Cube. Also collaborating with the biggest names in the Australian Hip Scene including Hilltop Hoods, Bliss n Eso, Kerser, Alex Jones, Drapht. While having built up a reputable name across australis music scene, however Hyjak has not slowed done him with alot of talk that he is the hungriest people have ever seen him in his career to date. in fact described hungrier then a stoned Ethiopian by many whilst running multiple community music work shops to give back to the local music scene.
Hyjak first appeared on the scene in 1998, at the age of fifteen he snuck into a pub in the Sydney suburb of Kings Cross to compete in a rap battle, which he won. Torcha, hailing from Sydney’s west, was an active volunteer youth worker, doing programs in youth prisons and performing at anti-war rallies. Formally part of Sydney’s Eth-nik Tribe, another Australian hip hop group
